Dear authors! The following changes have taken place in the Competition procedure:
(1) According to Decree No. 55-УM of the Mayor of Moscow dated 7 May 2020 “On Amending Decree No. 12-УM dated 5 March 2020,” all public and mass events in Moscow are suspended until 31 May 2020. In accordance with this Decree, the Organizing Committee has decided to hold both Rounds Two and Three of the Competition online.
(2) Based on this decision, the Organizing Committee is to announce the following procedure of holding the Competition:
- 7–17 May: the jury will assess the thirteen scores admitted to participate in Round Two on a ten-point scale. Members of the jury are to be: Alexander Chaykovsky as its chairman (Russia), Oscar Bianchi (Italy/Switzerland), Levon Chaushian (Armenia), Alexander Koblyakov (Russia) and Krzysztof Meyer (Poland). A maximum of six scores that achieve the largest average scores will be admitted to participate in Round Three.
- 18–20 May: the jury will count the votes and determine the finalists.
- 20–22 May: the third (final) round of the Competition will be held.
(3) When all restrictions caused by the difficult epidemiological situation are cancelled, the Organizing Committee will consider an opportunity of public performance of the pieces composed by the Competition laureates, with their preliminary rehearsals.

Annex of the Year 2020 to Regulations on Tchaikovsky Moscow State Conservatory’s International Nikolai Myaskovsky Competition for Young Composers
A.1. General Provisions
A.1.1. The full official name of the competition is Tchaikovsky Moscow State Conservatory’s Sixth International Nikolai Myaskovsky Competition for Young Composers (hereinafter to be referred to as “the 6th Competition”).
A.1.3. The dates of holding the 6th Competition are from 20 April till 22 May 2020 inclusive.
A.2. Prizes of the 6th Competition
A.2.1. The Organizing Committee has established the following prizes:
A.2.1.1. First Prize — 80,000 (eighty thousand) rubles;
A.2.1.2. Second Prize — 60,000 (sixty thousand) rubles;
A.2.1.3. Third Prize — 40,000 (forty thousand) rubles.

A.4. Procedure for Holding the 6th Competition
A.4.3. The 6th Competition consists of three rounds. Round One is eliminating: see clause 5.2 in the text of the Regulations. The opening ceremony of the 6th Competition will take place at the Irina Arkhipova Concert Hall of the International Association of Musicians (2/14 Bryusov Lane, Bld. 8). Rounds Two and Three of the 6th Competition will be held publicly at the Nikolai Myaskovsky Concert Hall of Tchaikovsky Moscow State Conservatory. The closing ceremony and final concert of the 6th Competition will take place at the Moscow Conservatory’s Conference Hall (the Rachmaninoff Building).
A.5. Submission of the Application and the Score
A.5.1. In order to participate in the 6th Competition, every applicant must:
A.5.1.1. fill out an online application:
A.5.1.2. fill out, sign, scan and forward his/her consent for the processing of his/her personal data to the Organizing Committee’s official e-mail address.
A.5.2.1. Each applicant must submit to the 6th Competition one piece in a free form composed by him/her personally for voice (of any range) and chamber ensemble (from a duo to a sextet inclusive), duration is 7 minutes minimum and 15 minutes maximum. The competitors may use any instruments for the chamber ensemble (with no limitation). The verbal text of the piece to be submitted may be either poetic or prosaic and must be logically coherent.

A.5.4.1. The deadline for submitting the online application, the documents (except for a receipt of the payment of the registration fee) and the score in order to participate in Round One of the 6th Competition is 20 April 2020.
A.5.4.2. The time period for submitting the receipt of the payment of the registration fee is 4 May 2020 the earliest and 19 May 2020 the latest (see clause A.6.2).
A.6. Financial Terms
A.6.2. An amount of the registration fee for participation in the 6th Competition is, optionally:
(1) 3000 (three thousand) Russian rubles;
(2) 40 (forty) US dollars;
(3) 37 (thirty-seven) euros.

Regulations on Tchaikovsky Moscow State Conservatory’s International Nikolai Myaskovsky Competition for Young Composers
1. General Provisions
1.1. The full official name of the competition is Tchaikovsky Moscow State Conservatory’s International Nikolai Myaskovsky Competition for Young Composers (hereinafter to be referred to as “the Competition”).
1.2. The Competition was founded in 2009 by Tchaikovsky Moscow State Conservatory (hereinafter to be referred to as “the Conservatory”).
1.3. The Competition is held every two years. The dates of the respective year’s Competition are specified and published on the Conservatory’s official website in advance: see the webpage of the respective year’s Competition with a specific number.
1.4. The requirements for the Competition’s pieces are specified individually for each Competition of the respective year and published on the Conservatory’s official website in advance: see the webpage of the respective year’s Competition with a specific number.
2. Prizes
2.1. The Organizing Committee announces three monetary prizes for the Competition laureates. The amount of each prize is specified and published on the Conservatory’s official website in advance: see the webpage of the current year’s Competition with a specific number.
2.2. Upon the Organizing Committee’s consent, public organizations, foundations, mass media and/or individuals may establish any additional prizes, awards and/or gifts for the competitors. Decisions to award any special prizes, awards and/or gifts to the competitors are made by the Jury of Rounds Two and Three of the Competition.
2.3. All the prizes will be paid to the Competition laureates in rubles, with taxes to be deducted under Russia’s legislation.
3. The Jury Teams
3.1. The Organizing Committee appoints two teams of the Competition Jury:
3.1.1. the Jury of Round One, who approve the participants of Round Two according to the submitted scores of acoustic pieces and/or audio/media files of electronic pieces (unless it contradicts the terms of the respective year’s Competition);
3.1.2. the Jury of Rounds Two and Three, who award the prizes upon the results of public performances of the Competition pieces.
3.2. Both teams of the Jury are specified for the respective year’s Competition and published on the Conservatory’s official website in advance: see the webpage of the respective year’s Competition with a specific number.
3.3. None of the Jury members, including the chairperson, may not undertake any direct or indirect actions aiming to disclose an authorship of the applicants’ pieces (see clauses 5.2 and 5.8).
3.4. The results of each round are announced publicly as soon as it ends and then published on the Conservatory’s official website: see the webpage of the respective year’s Competition with a specific number.
3.5. The Jury of Rounds Two and Three may, at their own discretion:
3.5.1. award not all of the prizes;
3.5.2. divide the amount of any prizes between several laureates within the limits of the established prize fund;
3.5.3. share the monetary part of non-awarded prizes between the laureates of any other prizes within the limits of the established prize fund.
3.6. All decisions of both Jury teams are final and irrevocable.
3.7. No Jury member, including the chairperson, may vote for competitors who officially have been or were his/her students during the three years immediately preceding the respective year’s Competition. Should such a case take place, the respective Jury member must notify the Organizing Committee thereon in writing prior to the beginning of the Competition.
4. Procedure for Holding the Competition
4.1. Pupils and students of musical educational institutions, as well as professional musicians, not younger than 16 and younger than 36 years as of the first day of the Competition may take part in it.
4.2. The first prize laureate of Competition No. X may not participate in Competition No. X+1 (see clause 1.3).
4.3. The Competition consists of three rounds. Round One is eliminating (see clause 3.1.1). Rounds Two and Three are held publicly.
4.4. No pieces earlier published or performed publicly may participate in the Competition.
4.5. Each competitor admitted to participate in Round Two must personally attend both the drawing of lots and the organizational meeting at the Conservatory. The time and place of both the drawing of lots and the organizational meeting are to be published on the Conservatory’s official website: see the webpage of the respective year’s Competition with a specific number.
4.6. The order of performances of the competitors’ pieces in Rounds Two and Three, omitting the withdrawn competitors’ counting numbers, is to be determined by the drawing of lots and remains unchanged until the end of the Competition.
4.7. At the end of the respective year’s Competition, a final concert of its laureates’ pieces is to be held. The time and venue of the Competition’s final concert is to be set by the Organizing Committee and published on the Conservatory’s official website in advance: see the webpage of the respective year’s Competition with a specific number.
4.8. In the event a laureate withdraws a performance of his/her piece in the Competition’s final concert with no valid reason, the prize awarded to such a laureate will not be paid.
5. Submission of the Application, Documents and Competition Piece
5.1. In order to participate in the Competition, the following documents must be scanned and forwarded to the Organizing Committee’s official e-mail address:
5.1.1. a filled-out online application — see the link on the webpage of the respective year’s Competition with a specific number;
5.1.2. the applicant’s consent for the processing of his/her personal data with his/her personal signature (hereinafter to be referred to as “the Consent”): see the link on the webpage of the respective year’s Competition with a specific number;
5.1.3. the front page of the applicant’s passport or other identifying document (with his/her photo and the holder’s signature);
5.1.4. one artistic photo of the applicant taken against a neutral background with a minimum resolution of 300 dpi;
5.1.5. the applicant’s document on his/her musical education or a certificate from his/her educational institution, either in Russian or in English;
5.1.6. the applicant’s brief artistic biography (*.doc or *.docx only), including information about his/her place of study/work, the year of study at the time of the respective year’s Competition (if a student), his/her teachers, participation in any previous competitions (including the year, place and award), as well as any other information that the applicant considers essential for the Organizing Committee;
5.1.7. a receipt on the payment of the registration fee (see clause 6.1).
5.2. In addition, every applicant must submit, optionally (unless it contradicts the terms of the respective year’s Competition):
- (1) either the score and parts of his/her acoustic piece signed by the applicant’s password only, with no name, as *.pdf files, — please make sure that the password indicated on your score is identical to that indicated on the parts;
- (2) or the audio/media file of his/her electronic piece, whose password is the name of this file.
5.3. Every applicant who is a citizen of Russia must submit the scans of three additional documents: see the Competition webpage in Russian.
5.4. The deadline for submitting the application, the documents and the competition piece is specified and published on the Conservatory’s official website in advance: see the webpage of the respective year’s Competition with a specific number.
5.5. The fact of forwarding both the online application and the Consent to the Organizing Committee (see clauses 5.1.1 and 5.1.2) means an applicant’s unconditional consent with all the terms of these Regulations and their Annex.
5.6. In the event an applicant refuses to participate in the Competition, the registration fee he/she has paid out will not be returned.
5.7. The Organizing Committee may reject any application that does not meet any of the above-mentioned requirements.
5.8. No music material containing any personal information about the applicant, nor an audio/media file whose name is not his/her password, may be allowed to participate in the Competition.
5.9. An anonymous list of the composers’ passwords admitted to participate in Round Two of the Competition is to be published on the Conservatory’s official website in advance: see the webpage of the respective year’s Competition with a specific number.
6. Financial Terms
6.1. The registration fee for participation in the Competition (hereinafter to be referred to as “the Fee”) may be paid, optionally, in any of the following three currencies:
- (1) Russian rubles;
- (2) US dollars;
- (3) euros.
6.2. The amount of the Fee is to be updated and published on the Conservatory’s official website in advance: see the webpage of the respective year’s Competition with a specific number. The Organizing Committee assumes that the amount of the Fee is economically equivalent in all the three currencies; however, the team reserves the right to adjust it selectively, considering any current fluctuations of the respective exchange rates officially established by the Bank of Russia.
6.3. The Fee has to be transferred to any of the following bank accounts of the Conservatory in the relevant currencies:

6.4. All transportation and other expenses directly or indirectly related to participation in the Competition have to be paid either by the competitors themselves or by their sponsoring organizations.
7. Special Provisions
7.1. The Conservatory is the only owner of an exclusive copyright for audio- and/or video-recording, as well as for any radio, TV and/or online broadcasts of all the rounds and the final concert of the Competition.
7.2. Laureates of the Competition receive no copyright for any usage by the Conservatory of audio- and/or video-recording, as well as of any radio, TV and/or online broadcasts of any public performances of their pieces (see clause 1.4).
7.3. These Regulations are published on the webpage of the International Nikolai Myaskovsky Competition for Young Composers located on the Conservatory’s official website, both in Russian and English. All the clauses that concern the holding of each Competition in the respective year are published on the webpage of the respective year’s Competition with a specific number, both in Russian and English.
7.4. Should any dispute or disagreement arise in the interpretation of any of the terms of these Regulations and/or its Annex, the versions published in Russian shall prevail.
