Curriculum Vitae:
Utkin was born in Moscow in the musicians’ family. His father — Y. F. Utkin, was a violin player; his brother — М. Y. Utkin was a cello player.
In 1962 he entered Central Music School (College) of Moscow Tchaikovsky State Conservatory, piano department. In 1967 he changed to class of oboe under G.P. Kerentsev. In the period from 1975 to 1980 Utkin was a student of the Moscow Conservatory (class of Professor А. V. Petrov), and in 1983 he graduated from the Post Graduate Course under А. V. Petrov.
Teaching:
The musician is teaching at the Moscow Conservatory since 1986. At 1998 he has become Associated Professor and in 2007 Professor in conservatory.
Since 1994 Utkin is teaching at the Academic Music College in Association with Moscow Tchaikovsky Conservatory, and since 2000 he combines his work at the college with teaching at the Gnesins Moscow music school.
Master-classes and various courses:
The musician has master classes at Mstislav Rostropovich Foundation in Moscow, Oviedo Conservatory, Santiago de Compostela Conservatory (Spain, 1992, 1993) and in Saint Petersburg.
Alumni:
Among Utkin’s alumni there are such musicians as: S. Belyaeva, F. Nodel (Astapenko), V. Nosyrev, М. Shtanko, P. Kundyanok, S. Usacheva, E. Miroslavsky.
Participation in competition's jury:
Alexey Utkin was a member of the jury at All-Russia Wood-wind Competition (Saint Petersburg, 1995), the International Competition in Тoulon (France, 1995, 2004), and Barbirolli International Oboe Competition (Great Britain, 2005).
Basic repertoire. Recitals:
Since 1982 Utkin is a soloist of “Moscow Virtuosi” directed by V. Spivakov. In collaboration with the ensemble the musician performed at “Carnegy Hall”, “Every Fisher Hall” (New York), “Concertgebau” (Amsterdam), “Palas de la Musica” (Barcelona), “Auditorio Nationale” (Madrid), “Academia Santa Cecilia” (Rome), “Champs Elysees” (Paris), “Hercules Hall” (Munich), “Bethoven Hall” (Bonn) and other prestigious concert halls.
Alexey Utkin performs with such famous musicians as Vladimir Spivakov, Eliso Virsaladze, Natalia Gutman, Alexander Rudin, Radovann Vladkovitch, Valery Popov and many others.
Since 2000 Utkin is an artistic director of his chamber orchestra “Hermitage”. The repertoire of the orchestra comprises mostly old music of the 17th – 18th centuries, but also includes compositions of the 19th – 20th centuries (for example, “Twenty-four Preludes” by D. Schostakowitch in arrangement for the chamber orchestra).
Discography:
Utkin has made some records of oboe and oboe d’amour compositions in collaboration with “Moscow Virtuosi” with RCA/BMG recording company. Several CDs are released with Caro Mitis. The compositions by J. S. Bach, J. Haydn, K. F. E. Bach, W. А. Mozart, G. Rossini, P. Paskulli, А. Vivaldi, А. Salieri, R. Strauss, B. Britten, D. Shostakovich, К. Penderetsky and others are among the recordings.
