Born in Moscow. Graduated from the Moscow State Conservatory’s Central Music School as a pianist (1976). Graduated with academic honors from the Moscow Conservatory’s Piano Faculty (Prof. Eugene Malinin’s class, 1981) and Faculty of Theory and Composition (Prof. Ekaterina Tsaryova’s class, 1983).

Theses defended:

• Ph.D. at the Leningrad State Conservatory: Chopin’s Piano Miniatures and Their Position within the Historical and Artistic Process (advisor: Prof. Ekaterina Tsaryova, 1987);
• D.A. at the Moscow State Conservatory: The Genre of Piano Miniature and Paths of Musical Romanticism (1996).
