The Eleventh International Competition of Performers on Winds & Percussion Instruments

• the first prize of 200,000 rubles and the title of a laureate;
• the second prize of 100,000 rubles and the title of a laureate;
• the third prize of 75,000 rubles and the title of a laureate;
• Special Anatoly Skobelev Prize from the Competition Sponsors: 100,000 rubles;
• Grand Prix: Professional Alto Trombone Model X from the Center for Wind Instrument Production and Repair Goncharov’s Atelier.

3.2. The jury of the Competition may either abstain from awarding any prize out of the three or divide the amount of any prize, except for the first one, within the established prize budget.

3.3. Upon the Organizing Committee’s consent, any public organizations, including foundations and/or mass media, may establish any additional prizes, awards and/or gifts for the competitors. Decisions on the awarding of any special prizes and/or gifts to the competitors will be made by the jury of the Competition.

4. The Competition Procedure

4.1. Both pupils and students of institutions specialized in music education, as well as professional musicians, aged between 16 and 32 full years (inclusive) as of the first day of the Competition may participate therein.
4.2. No first-prize laureate in the same nomination of the preceding Competition may participate in the current Competition.
4.3. The Competition consists of three rounds. All the rounds will be held publicly.
4.4. All competitors must attend both the drawing of lots and the coordination meeting at the Conservatory. Time and place of both the drawing of lots and the coordination meeting will be announced through the Conservatory’s official website.
4.5. The order of the competitors’ performances will be established at the drawing of lots and shall remain unchanged until the end of the Competition.
4.6. The order of pieces to be performed in each round should be personally determined by every competitor.
4.7. Upon decision of the respective jury, the performance of any competitor may be either shortened or stopped.
4.8. No members of the jury may vote for any competitors who are or were their official pupils or students within the three years directly preceding the Competition. Should such a case take place, the respective jury members must notify the Organizing Committee thereon in writing prior to the beginning of Round One.
4.9. The competitors admitted to participate in the third round of the Competition will be granted one acoustic rehearsal:

• in the nomination Bassoon — with an ensemble of stringed instruments;
• in the nomination Tenor Trombone — with a chamber orchestra.

4.10. The results of every round will be announced publicly upon its completion and then published on the Conservatory’s official website.
4.11. All decisions of the jury shall be final and irrevocable.

5. The Procedure of Applying

5.1. The deadline of submitting the application and the documents shall be 27 September 2019.

5.2. The Competition’s official e-mail address shall be: artmosconsv@gmail.com

5.3. In order to participate in the Competition, the applicant should:

(1) fill out an electronic application;

(2) forward the following documents to the Competition’s official e-mail address:
(a) the applicant’s official permission to process his/her personal data, personally signed (download *.doc);
(b) one artistic photo of the applicant on a neutral background, a minimum resolution of 300 dpi;
(c) a certificate of music education of every applicant, regardless of the nomination, either in Russian or in English;
(d) the applicant’s brief artistic biography (*.doc and *.docx only) containing information about his/her place of study/work, year of study at the time of the Competition (if a student), teachers, earlier participation in any other competitions (including the year, place and award), as well as any other information that the applicant considers essential for the Organizing Committee;
(e) a receipt confirming the payment of a registration fee (see clause 6.1).

5.4. Every applicant who is a citizen of Russia must submit the scans of three additional documents: see the Competition webpage in Russian.

5.5. In the event any applicant refuses to participate in the Competition, neither the scans of his/her documents nor the registration fee he/she paid out will be returned.

5.6. The fact of forwarding an application means an applicant’s unconditional consent with all the clauses of these Regulations.

6. Financial Terms

6.1. The registration fee shall be, optionally:

• 3000 (three thousand) Russian rubles,
• 45 (forty-five) US dollars,
• 40 (forty) euros.

6.3. All transportation and other expenses directly or indirectly related to participation in the Competition shall be paid either by the competitors themselves or by their sponsoring organizations.

6.4. All prizes and awards will be paid to the Competition laureates in rubles, with taxes to be deducted under Russia’s legislation.

7. Special Provisions

7.1. The Conservatory shall be the only owner of an exclusive copyright for audio- and/or video-recording, as well as for any radio, TV and/or online translation of all the rounds and the concert of the laureates of the Competition.
7.2. Laureates of the Competition must perform at its final concert without any remuneration. In the event a laureate fails to participate in the final concert of the Competition without valid excuse, the prize awarded to him/her will not be paid.
7.3. The competitors shall receive no remuneration for their performances during the Competition rounds; nor shall they be paid for any usage of audio- and/or video-recording, as well as of any radio, TV and/or online translation of any of their performances by the Conservatory.
7.4. These Regulations are published on the Conservatory’s official website both in Russian and in English. In the event any disputes or disagreements arise in the interpretation of any clauses of these Regulations, the version published in Russian shall prevail.

9.1. The Nomination Bassoon

9.1.1. Round One — two pieces (to be performed by heart and with all repeats written in the score)

(2) M. Glinka. Viola Sonata: 1^st movement (arranged for bassoon by I. Kostlan)

9.1.2. Round Two — three pieces

(1) F. Devienne. Sonata in E-flat Major for bassoon and piano, op. 1: 1^st movement

(2) A piece for solo bassoon that won at the Composers’ Competition for the Eleventh International Competition of Performers on Wind and Percussion Instruments: Victor Zinoviev (Russia). Kadenza for solo bassoon (download *.pdf);
(3) One of the following pieces (optional):

• R. Boutry. Interférences I

9.1.3. Round Three — two pieces (the number of repeats during the performance will be dependent upon the decision by the jury)

(1) W. A. Mozart. Quartet in F Major for oboe, violin, viola and cello, КV370 (version for bassoon in B-flat Major by Mordechai Rechtman)
(2) J. Francaix. Divertissement for bassoon and string quintet

It is not obligatory that both pieces be perfomed by heart.

9.2. The Nomination Tenor Trombone

9.2.1. Round One — two pieces (to be performed by heart)

(1) G. B. Pergolesi. Sinfonia in F Major for cello and basso continuo (transcription for trombone and piano in Ralph Sauer’s edition)
(2) H. Dutilleux. Choral, cadence et fugato (in Leduc’s edition)

9.2.2. Round Two — three pieces

(1) A piece for solo tenor trombone that won at the Composers’ Competition for the Eleventh International Competition of Performers on Wind and Percussion Instruments: Ninio Kesem (Israel). And Death Took Them Both (download *.pdf).

(2) One of the following pieces (optional):

• P. Hindemith. Sonata for trombone and piano;
• S. Šulek. Sonata Vox Gabrieli for trombone and piano;
• D. Tolpegov. Sonata for trombone and piano;
• J. Filas. Sonata for trombone and piano

It is not obligatory that the first and second pieces be perfomed by heart.

(3) Guy Ropartz. Pièce for trombone and piano
This piece has to be performed by heart.

9.2.3. Round Three — two pieces

(1) G. Ch. Wagenseil. Concerto for alto trombone and orchestra (may be performed on either an alto or a tenor trombone). This piece has to be performed by heart.
(2) Bernhard Krol. Capriccio da camera for trombone and seven instruments, op. 35.
It is not obligatory that this piece be perfomed by heart.
