Rachmaninov Hall is at the same time the oldest and the newest concert venue of the Conservatory.
The building itself appeared in the beginning of the 19th century.
In 1886 – 1918 the building was a residence of the Synodal singing college, and in 1898 a hall with a good «flying» acoustics was added to there.
In 1968 the building became a part of the Conservatory, the restoration of the Hall took a lot of years, and 1983 the beautiful Hall in white and blue was opened again by a concert of brilliant Russian pianist Svyatoslav Richter.
In the end of 1986 the Hall received its name after Sergey Rachmaninov, a great Russian composer and pianist, graduate of the Moscow conservatory who’s life was also connected with the Synodal choir college. A big number of chamber and choral concerts can be heard here as well as both early and contemporary music. Now the Rachmaninov Hall building is known as the Sergey Rachmaninov building (formerly the Third study building of the Moscow conservatory).
