Subscriptions of the Moscoww Conservatory
Season 2009-2010
Moscow Tchaikovsky Conservatory, one of the oldest musical institutions in the world does a lot for propaganda of music. It’s typical for now that the conservatory encourages and promote the performances of its professors, students and graduates. However there had already been examples like that in the past; in the beginning of the previous century the renowned conservatory director and a successful impresario Vasiliy Safonov was organizing concerts of the Russian Musical Society.
Thirty four subscriptions of the coming season comprehend the best venues which are the Conservatory Great, Small and Rachmaninov halls. The main purpose is the educational one. The repertoire is extremely broad; from the early to romantic music, alongside jazz and folk music. The works of contemporary composers will be also featured properly. In the season 2009–2010 we celebrate the 75th anniversary from the date of Alfred Shnitke’s birth. Alexey Lyubimov and Tatiana Grindenko together with the instrumental ensemble of the faculty of Historical and Contemporary Performance are going to present a colorful panorama of musical works written at the turn of the 20th century.
A joint project of the Moscow Conservatory and European association of music competitions will invite to the podium the laureates of the Third International David Oistrakh’s violin competition.
A program of each hall has something special about it. The stage of the Great Hall is traditionally one for classical music stars — here the Moscow Conservatory symphony orchestra will perform under the baton of Gennady Rozhdestvensky, Alexander Rudin, Anatoly Levin collaborating with such soloists as Eliso Virsaladze, Alexey Lyubimov, Alyona Bayeva, Andrei Korobeinikov and Alexandre Buzlov.
You can see both the renowned conservatory graduates and famous musicians representing different generations such as Liana Isakadze, Teodor Kurentzis, Alexander Rozhdestvensky and Miroslav Kultyshev being permanent participants of our subscription series. During the coming season we expect in the Great Hall such ensembles as The Hermitage Orchestra (St. Petersburg Camerata) under direction of Saulus Sondetskis and Osipov’s Academic Orchestra of folk instruments with their principal conductor Vladimir Ponkin.
The subscription series in the Small Hall «Prima donnas of the Opera Scene», «The vocal evenings» alongside the unique project «100 romances by P. I. Tchaikovsky» with prominent vocal stars like Elena Obrztsova, Zurab Sotkilava, Hibla Gerzmava, Vladimir Redkin and some others are specially designed for singing lovers.
The king of all instruments will be represented in the subscription «Your majesty Organ» and «A Feast of Organ» featuring organ masterpieces from England, France, Germany and Italy.
The subscription cycles of the Small Hall include the performances of the pianists like Eliso Virsaladze, Tigran Alikhanov, Ignat Solzhenitsin, Pavel Nersesyan and Andrey Pisarev. Michail Voskresensky will play Mozart’s eleven piano concertos: nine of them in the Small Hall during his personal anniversary subscription series dedicated to the 75 years from the date of his birth, and the remaining two in the Conservatory Great hall.
The fans of jazz will enjoy both Grigory Fayn’s appearances and that of his ensemble «The Stars of jazz», the performance of Daniel Kramer offering an unusual program «Jazz and Indian music».
It has already become a tradition that it’s in Rachmaninov Hall where concert-goers receive an opportunity to listen to ancient pieces and to musical avant-garde. The Conservatory’s subscriptions 2009—2010 are not an exception. In the subscription cycle called «Parallels and paradoxes» the listeners will be able to admire both Renaissance music and curious things from the 19th century, like L. Godovsky’s transcriptions of Rameau’s and Lully’s works. The unusual collectives like «The Russian Ensemble of Flutes» and «Mark Pekarsky’s Ensemble of Percussion Instruments» are awaiting their audiences. A brilliant parade of chamber orchestras include youth chamber orchestra «DSCH» (under Ilya Gaysin) and «Arpeggione» (under Valentine Uryupin) ans well as the Moscow Conservatory Chamber Orchestra under direction of Felix Korobov.
The folk groups like «The Cossack’s circle», «The spindle» and «The boundary» alongside the folk music ensembles of Moscow and St. Petersburg conservatories are going to acquaint the audiences with best musical examples of Russian calendar holidays. Again on the stage of the Rachmaninov Hall is a constellation of young musicians. These are children prodigies who became winners of the international competition «The Nutcracker», grant-aided students of the «New names» fund and the choir of the children’s choral school-studio «The Spring».
